What is a Tummy Tuck?
A tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen and tightens the underlying muscles to create a smoother, firmer abdominal profile. The procedure is typically performed on patients who have excess skin or loose, sagging abdominal muscles due to weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or aging.
During the procedure, Dr. Munasifi and Dr. Economides make an incision hidden in the lower abdomen, and removes excess skin and fat from the area. The abdominal muscles are then tightened and the remaining skin is pulled taut to create a more toned and youthful appearance. The navel may be repositioned to match the new abdominal contour. The incision is then closed with sutures and dressings are applied.
Tummy tucks can be performed as a standalone procedure or in conjunction with other body contouring procedures, such as liposuction, breast lift, or breast augmentation, as part of a Mommy Makeover.
Can I get a Tummy Tuck if I have a hernia?
It is possible to get a tummy tuck if you have a hernia, but it will depend on the size and location of the hernia and the specific technique used during the tummy tuck. In most cases, a hernia can be repaired during the tummy tuck procedure which will allow for one single surgery and recovery. If you have muscle separation, this will be repaired at the same time (diastasis recti).
Am I a good candidate for a Tummy Tuck?
Good candidates for a tummy tuck are typically in good overall health, at a stable weight, and have excess skin or loose, sagging abdominal muscles due to weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or aging. It’s important to have realistic expectations about the results of the procedure and be committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle after the surgery.
How long does the procedure take?
The length of the procedure can vary depending on the extent of the surgery and whether additional procedures, such as liposuction, are performed. Typically, a tummy tuck takes between two to three hours to complete.
Will I have scarring after the procedure?
The incisions for a tummy tuck are made in areas that can be easily concealed by clothing. The scars may fade over time and become less noticeable.
Can I have children after a Tummy Tuck?
Yes, you can have children after a tummy tuck, but it’s generally recommended that you wait until after you have completed your family to have the procedure. Pregnancy can stretch the abdominal muscles and skin, which can compromise the results of the tummy tuck.
Dr. Economides is a great doctor. He is professional, friendly, and caring. The whole staff is kind and takes time to listen and answer your questions. I am very satisfied with the service and would definitely recommend Dr. Economides as well as Dr. Munasifi.

How is a Tummy Tuck performed?
Step 1: GENERAL ANESTHESIA
Your tummy tuck is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia and, depending on your surgical plan, may take 2-4 hours.
Step 2: INCISION
During your procedure, your surgeon begins by creating an incision along your lower pubic area, so any scarring is hidden below the bikini line. Your loose abdominal skin is lifted to expose your muscles, which are tightened and stitched into a new position.
Step 3: SKIN REMOVAL & LIPOSUCTION
Then, your excess skin is removed, your incision is sutured closed, and your belly button is reattached proportionately to match your new, flatter stomach. If needed, your surgeon may also perform liposuction to remove excess fatty tissue.
Step 4: RECOVERY
Once your surgery is completed, dressings are applied to the incision sites and a compression garment is wrapped around your midsection to assist with the healing process. Your surgeon also places small tubes to help drain blood and other fluids from the surgical area.
